Kara’s World Cup song banned from KBS

Kara’s World Cup song, “We’re with you” has been banned by the KBSnetwork in South Korea. A representative from the network declared that KBS cannot promote a song with a commercial or business motive. Besides Kara’s “We’re with you”, KBS has also banned “Once Again, Daehanminguk” by Psy & Kim Jang-hoon as well as “The Shouts of Reds” by the Hwang Sun Hong Band (led by former soccer player and World cup representative for South Korea during the 2002 World Cup).

Many people have expressed that the banning would be understandable if the song was used for a televised advertisement, but the recent action by KBS cannot be understood. They added that Kara’s song was probably a sacrifice in the fight for control for televising the 2010 World Cup. SBS currently has the exclusive for televising the event, despite KBS and MBC’s protests. After all, “We’re with you” is the background music for the SBS World Cup campaign.

Below is the MV for Kara’s World Cup song, “We’re with you”. It is sad to know that we won’t be hearing the song or seeing performances of it at all on KBS.
