“We get thoughts that we’re ugly.” Really?
Rookie girl group Tiara has definitely had a not-bad yet not-great debut into the K-pop scene. Although they are quite able singers, as well as having a stint in an infamous Korean drama series, it’s safe to say that they haven’t made an epic splash into the music world as of yet.
Still promoting their debut single, “Lies,” three T-ara members (leaderEun-jung, So-yun, Hyo-min) appeared on popular quiz/variety showKBS Star Golden Bell as contestants. One of the MCs asks the girls if they are in fact aware that they are pretty. Leader Eun-jung replied, “before we debuted, we did believe we were pretty. But then after debuting, we realized there were so many other people pretty people. So, lately, we get thoughts that we’re ugly.” Yup, she didn’t say “not pretty;” she said “ugly.”
Some netizens were shocked and praised her for being “humble” and “honest” while others thought she was playing an image. The thing is, if such beautiful women like Tiara say on a nationally syndicated show that they find themselves ugly, what is that doing to young girls and even young women all around the country? Still, to be fair, the comment was made in good spirits.
