Late last year, Jeon Ji-hyun (Blood: the Last Vampire) was reported to be in China working on a movie adaptation of the novel, “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” by Lisa See.

Though there were rumors of Jeon Ji-hyun leaving the Chinese-American joint project, the actress now will be starring beside Li Bingbing (The Forbidden Kingdom) and Hugh Jackman.

The main female lead was given to actress Zhang Ziyi, and the main male lead was given to an unnamed member of the former Tawainese pop group, F4. But, both Zhang Ziyi and the male lead pulled out of production. Zhang Ziyi will instead be working on the martial arts film “The Grand Master.” Jeon Ji-hyun was also preparing to pull out.

But now, the film is back on track with a new female lead Li Bingbing , and Hollywood star Hugh Jackman has also signed on. Jun Ji-hyun ultimately decided to stay in the cast.

The movie is centered on the lifelong friendship between Lily and Snow Flower in 19th Century China, where they are oppressed by rigid cultural codes for the conduct of women.

Filming for “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” started yesterday.

How do you think the film will do with a new cast?
