The ideal type, a popular topic of discussion among Koreans, is also often discussed on various variety programs. The ideal type, usually a certain celebrity, embodies the qualities that you would want in your prospective significant other, or is a person you find the most attractive. For example, a popular television show is KBS variety program “Ideal Type World Cup,” in which celebrities weed through a pool of celebrities tournament style until it’s down to one person who is the ultimate “ideal type.”

Usually, male stars choose someone who can be both cute and sexy and female stars usually choose someone who is cool in his own right. In other words, there are no rules, but most stars tend to steer clear of certain “mega” stars, such as Lee Hyori and Rain.

For your viewing, here’s a break-down of the most commonly named ideal types in Kpop stardom (in handy diagram form!), as they have been revealed through various variety programs and interviews.

For a starting point, “We Got Married” couple Jo Kwon (2AM) and Ga-in(Brown Eyed Girls) are the ideal types of Girls Generation (SNSD) member Tiffany and Clazziquai member Alex, respectively. Jo Kwon and Ga-in also let each other know about their ideal types. Jo Kwon’s ideal type is Yoona from Girls Generation, but Ga-in prefers actor Sol Kyung-gu (movie “Public Enemy”). But, Sol Kyung-gu is already married to actressSong Yoon-ah (drama “On Air”).

After Ga-in mentioned the acting couple on “We Got Married,” “Star Golden Bell” MC Kim Je-dong revealed that Song Yoon-ah was his ideal type, but after Song Yoon-ah got married, Kim Je-dong chose Son Ye-jin (movie “My Wife Got Married”) as his new ideal type, but Son Ye-jin’s ideal type is pianist Baek Kun-woo. Son Ye-jin also is the ideal type of Super Juniormember Kim Hee-chul and comedian Ji Sang-ryeol, who is cast in “Family Outing 2.”

His “Family 2″ fellow member, Yoona (Girls Generation) has other admirers besides Jo Kwon, including idols Nichkhun (2PM), Andy (Shinhwa), singerLee Seung-ki, and actor Yoon Sang-hyun (drama “Take Care of Agasshi”), who will also be on “Family 2.” Yoona really is Miss Popular, but out of all these guys who choose her, she said on a broadcast that she was most happy about hearing that she was Lee Seung-ki’s ideal type.

However, Yoona’s ideal type isn’t Lee Seung-ki, but actor Yun Jung-hoon(drama “Jejoongwon”), because she had always had her eye on him since she was a child. Too bad for Yoona, Yun Jung-hoon is already married to CF-star, actress Ha Ga-in (drama “Witch Amusement”). A super star couple, Ha Ga-in also has a large number of admirers, including actor Song Seung-heon (drama “East of Eden”).

These days, Yoona seems to have all the popularity amongst female celebrities, but her rumored boyfriend Ok Taecyeon (2PM) is conversely Mr. Popular in the ideal type world.

It would be really impossible to name all the celebrities that have mentioned Taecyeon when talking about an ideal type, but to name a few, Taecyeon is the ideal type of Gu Hara (Kara), Sunny (Girls Generation), and actress Bae Du-na (drama “God of Study”). Unfortunately for all these ladies, Taecyeon’s ideal type is actress Ha Ji-won (movie “Haeundae”).

Kara member Gu Hara is fairly popular in her own right. Namely, she has admirers Kim Yong-jun (SG Wannabe) and Chun Myung-hoon (NRG). Yet, Chun Myung-hoon has more than one ideal type. He named his second ideal type to be f(x) member Sulli, shortly after Big Bang leaderG-Dragon revealed Sulli as his ideal type.

For SG Wannabe Kim Yong-jun, though Gu Hara is his ideal type, he is really dating his “We Got Married” wife, new CF star Hwang Jung-eum(drama “High Kick Through the Roof”). Hwang Jung-eum name actor Kim Nam-gil (movie “Portrait of a Beauty”) as her ideal type.

The ever-complicated ideal type is always changing but certain stars shine from time to time based on their activities at the time. As you can imagine, Lee Min-ho and Kim Hyun-joong (SS501) had their fair share of admirers during the airing of “Boys Over Flowers.”

Though, over years, some stars have held their ground in being mentioned by other stars, especially actress Song Hye-gyo (drama “Full House”) and already mentioned Ha Ji-won. For now, the popularity goes to Taecyeon (2PM) and Yoona (Girls Generation).
