Flower boy and SS501 member, Kim Hyun-joong’s fans made a scholarship fund in his name. This is one instance of fan power doing something good. Let’s hope this is a turn in the right direction.

On the 16th of this month, registered members of a Kim Hyun-joong fan cafe, “(Miclub) Hyun-joong Ji-hoo Illness” (마이클럽 지후현중앓이), had a movement for a “Kim Hyun-joong Scholarship Fund,” and on the 23rd, they showed off the fruits of their labor. On the cafe they announced, “Kim Hyun-joong’s fan club, as the first of any entertainer’s fan club, created a scholarship fund in the name of the entertainer.”

Members do not plan to stop after just a one-time donation. They are expecting to have regular donations to the scholarship fund, that will benefit both tuition and other school-related fees of the scholarship winner.

One fan club member, Jung Eun-joo shared, “Seeing Kim Hyun-joong as a person who practices regular charitable sharing, we came to participate in this contribution that says that we share that practice with him.” The fan club hopes that they can help a young person realize their dreams under Kim Hyun-joong’s name.

These days, fans show their love in all sorts of ways: newspaper ads, donations to charities, feeding their production crew, shutting down a homepage of their celebrity’s “rival,” but this is a truly unique and healthy way to express their love.

Good job, Kim Hyun-joong fans. I’m sure the flower boy is very pleased by this new scholarship fund.
