Feeling a little bored without “IRIS“? Don’t know what to watch after the end of “You’re Beautiful“? Instead of sitting around and waiting for Season 2, why not try something new?

Five new dramas premiered this week, all gaining respectable ratings and favorable reviews. Maybe there’s something that will pick your interest!

KBS unvieled the high school drama “God of Study,” starring Yoo Seung-ho, and the historical drama, “Chuno,” starring Jang Hyuk. SBS brings the historical medical drama “Jejoongwon” and the romance drama “Wish Upon a Star.” MBC provides a restaurant drama “Pasta,” starring Lee Sun-kyun.

“God of Study,” “Jejoongwon,” and “Pasta,” all marked around 15% ratings for their first episode, and “Wish Upon a Star” was lagging around 11%. “Chuno” had the best showing with a 20% viewer rating.

“God of Study” is a remake of the Japanese drama “Dragon Zakura.” Kim Su-ro stars as a lawyer brought to the school, because of the school’s affiliation with a corporation. The business however may shut down, thus bringing the closing of the school. Bae Du-na plays a teacher concerned with how the school’s problems will affect her students. “God of Study” also features young faces, including “Little So Ji-sub” Yoo Seung-ho andT-ara’s Ji-yeon. Yoo Seung-ho takes up Yamapi’s role in the Japanese original as a young rebel with a good heart.

Though it is a comic high school drama, “God of Study” can be a teen drama that has more sophistication than “Boys Over Flowers,” and is probably the best for “You’re Beautiful” withdrawal sufferers.

“God of Study” airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:55 on KBS 2TV.

Chuno

“Chuno” (or “Slave Hunters”), is a historical drama with a solid cast. Jang Hyuk plays a slave hunter, who is bent on revenge after being falsely accused of a crime he did not commit. Oh Ji-ho plays Jang Hyuk’s rival, and Lee Da-hae plays a slave who becomes a nobel’s daughter and also the main love interest in the middle of a love triangle between the two rivals. Boasting action in a historical setting, “Chuno” has already gained attention from the strength and depth of the acting cast, thus producing its strong 20% ratings. With an interesting back story, this drama has the potential to be a great drama. If you enjoyed “IRIS” for reasons other than T.O.P, then this drama maybe a historical answer to your boredom.

“Chuno” airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:55pm on KBS 2TV.

Jejoongwon

“Jejoongwon” is a bit of a fresh idea, it’s a medical drama, but it’s also a historical drama. As a story of the Western medical movement in Korea, starring Park Yong-woo as son of a poor family who becomes a physician and Yeon Jung-hoon as a nobleman who gives up his status to pursue Western medicine. The main female part is Han Hye-jin, though the drama seems to focus more on the differences and similarities of the conflicts of the two leading males. With a big budget and high production value, “Jejoongwon” could be the historical drama to watch or end up being “just another drama.”

“Jejoonwon” airs on Monday and Tuesdays at 9:55pm on SBS.

“Wish Upon a Star”

“Wish Upon a Star” is a standard romance drama with a lot of heart. Choi Jung-won is the leading lady, chasing after “happily ever after” and her co-worker played by Kim Ji-hoon, though she is blind to the fact that he’s a total jerk, even though Shin Dong-wook warns her of his heartlessness. As a good-natured romantic comedy, this drama also has some hard-hitting plot points, included the orchestrated death of the main character’s parents. Probably best to watch this one casually, but it’s also this type of drama that hooks you and becomes your guilty pleasure. You’ve been warned.

“Wish Upon a Star” airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8:55pm on SBS.

“Pasta”

“Pasta” is the drama many drama freaks were patiently waiting for. Starring seasoned Lee Sun-kyun as a sometimes charming, sometimes prickly head chef. The drama seems to focus as much on the restaurants story as it does the love story, which grows between Lee Sun-kyun andGong Hyo-jin, an assistant chef. “Pasta” follows a fast pace, to follow the fast pace lifestyle of a real restaurant business, intertwined with subtle humor, like that of “Coffee Prince.” Clazziquai’s Alex also co-stars in this drama. If you want something new and refreshing, this may be your cup of tea.

“Pasta” airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:55pm on MBC.
