We mean intern.

On December 15, 2009, JYP posted up a job listing on craigslist.com. It seems like the company is correctly using the most popular portal to find anyone to fill the position of Online Marketing Intern.

The job seems easy enough, multitasking several projects while doing what your superior wants, it even comes with a free lunch and compensation for travel expenses. BUT it seems that the job is less than ideal for American born Asians (even non Asians) not used to the “Korean” style of work. This job is anything but luxurious. Here’s what a former intern had to say about her experience working for JYP Entertainment in 2008.

Pros
It is one of the largest Korean Entertainment companies next to SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment.

The work is flexible and the environment is laid back. There are no cubicles in the office. It is an open room with 6 employee’s working right next to each other.

They provide lunch and dinner. The cook is amazing.

Cons
The management is disorganized and not professional.

The studio has more power than the office. In the entertainment business, music should not be the central point of the business. The studio makes all the decisions, including the daily schedule. Even though you believe that it is not the right strategy, you are unable to fight back or respond with your opinions. Maybe it is the Korean culture, but it should not be in effect here in America where business is done with other American companies.

The upper management treats the lower employees unfairly.

Interns are expected to clean and do the dirty work for nothing in exchange.

Advice to Senior Management
Treat all employees with respect even though you are older and in a higher position.
