Why would they do that?

Girls Generation team up with rival new girl group, f(x) to showcase the LG Cyon’s “New Chocolate Phone” at Crown Hotel on October 15, 2009. The two ido groups recorded different versions of song “Chocolate Love” to promote LG Cyon, “Chocolate Love” mobile phone.

Would rivalry between the two groups lead to more popularity even though they are under the same SM label?
